Ear/Sinus Infection?

Pics
Nothing obvious upon cutting her open. One of her ears deep inside had a very hard deposit completely filling the canal. I was able to crush it, but it had almost a leathery quality. She had no meat on her bones in spite of eating quite a lot of food since Thanksgiving. Breast was starting to get concave. Clearly beyond my skills to heal.

She had one very small yolk developing, not the normal cluster of them. As expected considering she hadn't layed in months.

I don't think a blocked up ear is likely to have caused her to waste away.

Thanks again, everyone. Sorry for no happy ending.

You did everything you could and the right thing at the right time. This definitely sounds like it was not fixable. Bless you and this is STILL a happy ending. She isn’t suffering. We may not have the answers now…I’ll add it to the list of questions I have when we get to the hereafter! ❤️🙏

I'm sorry you lost your bird but it's good she was released from her suffering, despite your best efforts to help her.

If you took pictures during your necropsy, post them here. The educators may be able to help discern what was happening inside her.

Hugs for healing.:hugs

I did not. My wife and kids probably wouldn't have been keen to assist with that and it was getting dark. I asked my wife if she would care if I did it on the kitchen table, but she said no. :D

Well... I just looked and the university diagnostic lab here only accepts specimens from licensed vets. So, I guess I cannot get her tested. That's lousy...

Yes that is generally the way it is done. Though I think there is a lab in Texas that accepts without a Veterinarian.

How disappointing for you. You gave her a good run though, and you did everything possible. I wonder if she had some sort of autoimmune issue, in which case nothing you could have done would have made any difference.

I do think you did the right thing, hopefully no one else develops any symptoms going forward.

Thanks!
No one else has had any symptoms and she had been isolated since just after Thanksgiving. So feel pretty confident it was some sort of one off.
