Hi, I have 7 chicks that hatched on the 29th september, so makes about 19 weeks, I've just started them on layers pellets, is this ok or too soon?
When should i expect them to start laying? One is a cockeral and he is now crowing, at what age do they start mating?
1 Brown leghorn bantam, 1 Buff sussex bantam, 1 welsummer bantam, 2 appenzeller bantam and a silkie X sussex these are all pullets and the cockeral is a buff sussex bantam.
Thanks for any advise.

They should start laying soon!! And I think it's fine you already put them on layer pellets!! Start watching their comb & wattle. When it starts getting bigger & redder start watching for eggs!!

You don't actually need layer pellets. For mine I just use the grower and put out oyster shell for thier eggs shells. Why give up the protein?

I think they mature quicker than we think they do. Watch for those feathers to fill in, the combs and wattles growing and turning red.
The cockerels crowing is one deffinite sign of maturity. Your pullets will be interested in those nesting boxes, put a few golf balls in there.
