Individuals lay at the rate their own bodies allow them to do so. Not a day sooner. Production breeds, such as a red sex link may lay as early as 17 weeks, with production reds just a week or two later. The more heritage or old fashioned the blood line, the later they will lay. Some breeds have no inclination to lay before 24-28 weeks.

Your birds should be on the earlier end of spectrum.

my wyandotte, barred rock, buff orpington, and black australorp are about 18 wks. two have just started laying. the wyandotte and one mystery chicken. their eggs are small at this time - about the size of quail eggs.
