We have a chick!!! And the other two are starting!!

Baby #2 has arrived... it’s an EE/Lakenvelder cross. Baby #1 is a BO/Lakenvelder.

And now there are 3!!

I had to assist #3 a little. It had pipped and made no progress in about 24hrs so I picked a bit of the shell away and carefully enlarged the opening it had made in the membrane just a bit. A couple of hours later when I checked, it had gained some strength and finished its task.

As for letting them free range, keep an eye out for cats. Also, we once had a dog that never ever bothered the free ranging farm chickens... except for fluffy chicks. He thought those were hors d'oeuvres.
