Hi everyone! My family and I are brand new chicken owners, about 4-5 weeks ago we bought 7 baby chicks, they are now much bigger and most of their feathers have come in but not fully just yet. We wanted to know around what age (in weeks) they can safely go into their outside coop. We live in NJ and at nights the temps go down to about 40-50’s, we don’t want them to freeze of course so we just need some guidance please! Thank you

I know this won't work for everyone, but I let mine run with the big birds when they won't fit through the fence. A good guide is when they're about half the size of your big birds. I let mine live in a coop inside the big birds' run when they are fully feathered, so they can get to know each other. If they're fully feathered they won't freeze at 40.

They can go out now. I put mine out at 2 weeks, just provided their heat source in the coop. But yours should be weaned from the heat by now.
