when can ducklings have these for treats?

Dolly1218,

Sorry for any confusion. Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks recommends sprinkling just a little chick grit on top of their food and that's how we did it. Miss Lydia's experience is different, in that they take what is needed. My Runners don't seem to follow the Duck Play Book all the time

. Go with your gut. Miss Lydia knows what she's talking about. We just had a divergent approach that seems to have worked out nicely.

Ok thank you! I get so worried Im going to do something wrong when feeding them. Sometimes I wish it were simple, like feeding dogs, just add kibble!

Thank you both again for your wonderful advice!

Great idea of putting minnows in the water for them to catch! I bet my two bigger ducklings would LOVE that! They love it when I put little pieces of pasta in the water for them to dive and eat (which I hope is okay). Real live swimming fish would be even better!!

I at first put 3 minnows in a little dish with water, the girls watched it closely and once they realized something was moving they would run up to it, touch the water just barely with their beak, and run away. It was so very funny!! I finally decided to put them in a bath with the fish so they can take a swim too. Only Rachel really dove under to cath those fish. It was also very funny to watch. They had soo much fun and gobbled them up faster than peas! Well Rachel did the others were too slow or not interested!

did you give them the minnos and mealworms at 1 week? I was wondering If i can feed my ducks some...my mallards are 10 days old and my khakis are 2 weeks old. that would awesome if I could do that without them choking :)
