my hens are 4 weeks old today! i live in illinois and while today it rained, its usualy pretty warm in may! and in june the heat gets pretty hot. when can i get them to be outside for good? there getting to big for a brooder

As I understand it, when they have a full set of feathers, they are able to deal with the environment. (Especially if you have a nice shelter/coop for them to get in out of the weather). I got one in October that was 4-weeks....and she was mostly feathered but she had some feathers that looked like marabou -- She is doing fine. 4-weeks should be O.K. IMO.

It will be interesting to see what comments you get on your question. Especially from Iowains!

the midwest weather is tricky, the summers can be brutally hot, and the winters can be brutally cold! haha. they have all the feathers from what i can see, i'm waiting until a nice day to bring them to there new chicken coop. I'm thinking by next saturday they should definetly be ready.
