So i have 5, approx. 5 week old SLWs, They are currently in the garage in a brooder that is a rabbit cage, with feeder, waterer, and heat lamp. I know the temp is in the 80s, but I know it needs to be cooler. They aren't to cold at night because they don't sleep under the lamp all hudled together. I guess my question is how soon do you all think I can put them outside in the coop?

I put my girls out in the coop when they were 5 weeks old, but I did run an extension cord to the coop and used the heat lamp. We had our brooder inside, and by the time we were on batch #3 within 3 months, we were tired of all the dust:P I would feel best leaving them without the heat lamp once the night time temps reached the appropriate temp for the age of your bird (at 5 weeks that should be about 70F degrees. In a few weeks the temperatures outside will raise and the age of your bird will allow you to go without the lamp)

Thank you so much, I'm just trying to figure out how to rig the lamp, I bought a coop kit, and I know that when they grow up a bit I'm going ot have to make it bigger, the roosts are to skiny they're like a perch for a cockatiel, and when they are full grown if i make the roost wider but leave it at the same level they'll hit thier head on the ceiling. and I sure don't want to lamp to burn them, or burn the coop down. I think I may need to make it all taller ASAP and give them wider roosts, and raise them up too. Grr. I need to post pics of my coop. it's only 40"w X 40" t(at the peak in the middle) and 52"L. to roosts are only like 1" wide.
