I am new to BYC and am wanting to start a flock soon, but I am learning all I can before I begin. I also need to get a coop ready. I live in the Shenandoah valley of Virginia, and was wondering if getting day old chicks in November would be too late in the season... should I just wait until spring to start my flock or should I just go for it?

Glad you joined us! You can raise chicks any time of the year, but is is somewhat easier in the warmer months and also, there are more chicks
available for sale then. So if you want to get started you will have to buy chicks soon, or wait until Spring. Have a look here for chicken Breeders & Hatcheries. Also have a look at the Learning Center for more on chick raising, flock management, feeding and housing etc, etc. Have fun!
