When can I put chicks outside in the coop?

oh thats great! I hate keeping them in a small water trough with a light...next door in the shop...I want them out to start learning to get around, on natures grounds...so I can as long as there secure from predators...and away from the big ones...whats a secure light?

sorry still new to this...

If you have to hang a heat lamp in your coop, secure it in two different ways. Example: With a chain AND zip ties. Make sure it's not too close to the bedding or anything it could catch on fire. Coop fires can and do happen.
Mine were playing in the yard from about two weeks on, under constant supervision at first.

got it, I appreciate all the help oh great Flock Mistress...lol...my kids say Im nuts...mom, you talk to the chickens!!!!

They sure do! I told my 15yr old that...she says mom why do you talk to your chickens...I said what? she says I hear, "come on girls you all need to lay" ..."work for your feed"..."lay mama some pretty eggs"...

I said well you can be down the hall across the house in your room....I can say in a whisper I want to go to the mall, and you come barreling down the hallway yelling I want to go mom!

I can stand in the same spot, and yell at the TOP of my lungs...Alexxxxxxx you need to do the kitche and sweep/mop...yelling at the top of my lungs...and you never hear me...

My chickens, I can be in the house and walking around the front, my girls will come running looking for me...even when I dont have treats or food...the love me, ask for nothing in return just to be petted...

Ahhh that is hilarious!

So I'm new to this whole chicken thing too but I've been letting my week old babies roam in our backyard for a few hours during the afternoon. They seem to love it! The temperature is usually near 90's by 3pm around here. It actually seems too hot for them, I see them panting and staying under the shade I provide.

Welcome to BYC Anny!

Two and a half weeks and mine were out, in the coop and run I built for them. Got to big for the brooder box.
They love it and go in the coop every night with out fail. There are doing just fine. They also run to the run gate when I go over to see them. They think they're going to get a treat. Mmm...well I do bring them some tasty treats they like. Pasta, beans and wilded rice. Not to much tho.
