Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Could you put them a secure heat source out in the coop? At 4 weeks and weather dependant I start weaning mine off heat out in the brooder shed. I start by turning the lamp off during the day for few hours and slowly build up to it being off all day and they just have it on a night. When they are fully feathered they don't have it all usually about 6 weeks of age.

Good luck and enjoy BYC :frow

I would wait till they are fully feathered out 40 degrees is pretty low. Chicks in a brooder usually start out with a temperature of 95 degrees provided by heat lamp. Each week you lower the temps by 5 degrees
