Just got my first egg from my 6 whiteleghorns at exactly 19 weeks old. My question is when can I start throwing in table scraps and chicken scratch? I have grit out now but is it time now to put out some shell? How much/how often can I give them scraps and/or scratch? Also I have 3 domoniques in with them that are 6 weeks behind in age. So will scraps and scratch hurt them at this early age. They are about 13 weeks. Please advise of ANY scraps I SHOULD NOT give my chickens!! What can they eat? Is there a list of do's and don't somewhere I'm missing? I'm just excited to get my FIRST egg!!

Congrats on your first egg! Your chickens are definitely ready for table scraps, and have been fur quite sine time. My 10 week old just started stealing figs from the bigger chickens when I throw them in the run... but before you do so look up the list of things that chickens should not have (avocado, onion, etc...). I would also suggest not mixing it in with their regular food; give it separately in a bowl as a treat. I always add powdered or fresh garlic to my table scraps. Mine personally LOVE watermelon and romaine lettuce.
