When can I switch Bobwhites from drown-proof waterer to a regular one?

The red Little Giant bases need a jar with a ring to keep it from threading in too far and sealing. All I use is the GQF bases[white]. They have a notch in the bottom the jar rim can't seal off. They seem to last longer too. I have about 25 in use now. Tom
