When can I switch starter feed from med to unmed?

since medicated can cause looser stool, won't a sudden switch cause it's own problem??? what do you think???

BTW- I have always used unmedicated in the past too.

I just came across this post while looking for issues about looser stool. I have 6 chicks all almost 3 weeks old. They have been on medicated feed from the day we got them. There are times their droppings are firmer and sometime very loose and stinky. Other than that, they seem to all be healthy. They are eating, drinking, peeping, running around with lots of energy. Their feathers are coming in well. This is our first time with chicks so I'm not really sure what to expect and I was afraid the loose stool was indicative of some disease.

no worries. the occasional loose, stinky poo is completely normal (think that one stinks now, wait till they get older!

) That happens every 8 to 10 poos, they are emptying their ceca. That's a "pouch" where more fiberous stuff goes for a more thorough digestion before being expelled.
