When can roosters fertilize eggs?

I haven't had experience in raising roosters before and my Black copper maran roo hatched Thanksgiving, so a little over 5 months and probably just started mating the chickens about a week ago. So my question is how long should it be until their eggs are fertile? Could it take another few months since he just started and so he probably doesn't know how to mate yet? Any answers appreciated!

Baby roosters shoot a lot of blanks. I would not expect a 5 month old cockerel to father many chicks and especially not many healthy chicks for another 3 to 5 months.

Start checking yolks for fertility.

I agree...Start looking for the Bullseye in the yolk. Each Cockerel is different and if he is breeding he is getting more mature..
