Hi all!
We recently got a Sumatra breeding pair, (These two chickens are some of the nicest chickens I've ever met! The 6 month old rooster even fell asleep in my lap. :) ) and I was wondering when you can safely call a Sumatra chick a male or a female. I've been collecting breeding pairs and selling chicks and these bantam black sumatras are my latest additions. For some breeds I have, I keep the chicks for a while until they can be sexed, and I was just wondering how long I would have to keep Sumatras to know when I can call them male or female. Thanks in advance!

You should be able to sex them by8-10 weeks by comb development I believe. @aart can help with the terminology. I think they are either pullets or cockerel until they are over a year, than hen and rooster.
