Hello,
6 chicks are 4 weeks old, mostly feathered and they are getting big for the plastic brooder they are in (3' x 2' x 24 high).
When can they go out to the coop with a heat lamp?
Thanks in advance for any replies!

Yeah, i guess it would help if i said where i am!
In connecticut high 50s to near 70 days, high 30s to low 40s nights.
thanks, Gary

Let me tell you, I baby my hens (some say too much). And when my five girls were chicklets, they went out into the coop at three weeks (with a heat lamp of course). I did cart their butts back into the house each night for another week, because I was so paranoid. Yours should be fine with a lamp for them to get under. Just keep an eye out for whether they're "clumping" under the lamp. They'll love the space!

ETA: Oh...and be sure your lamp is VERY secure, not clipped on, but hung with wire or chain.

They can be almost anywhere as long as they can warm up if they need to and there are nor drafts or predators. At four weeks they still need warmth of 75 degrees so check it out before you move them. Good luck!

It is the temp that you can keep the coop that counts. My 6 week girls are out in the coop and we have had a late very cold spell (read that to be low 20's). They have a heat lamp and can move under that if they feel the need. But often I find them elsewhere other than under the light in coop.
