When can you physically tell the difference between males & females?

I am going to take back any extra roosters I have. (The local people we bought them from said I can bring them back and we'll figure a deal out)
When can I tell for sure?
And also, is it okay to have 1 rooster, and 6+ hens?

it depends on the breed...

some cant be sexed until they are much older... silkies are pretty hard sometimes

1 Wyandotte
2 BRs
2 Golden Sebrights
1 Frizzle
1 Silver Laced Polish

On the BR's it will be easy to tell at about 6-8 weeks of age all you need to know about them is if it is

Black on white =Hen
White on black=Rooster
this is the color of the bars if the white bars are wide and the black bars are skinny then you got a roo reverse for hens.
