when can you sex chicks

Wow, this really depends on the breed unless you can do the vent chick....though that is not recommended after the first day (one day old.)
What I have done is look up the breed you want to try to sex, say Speckled Sussex, and see if there is any information on the net about when the combs and wattles really begin to color and grow.
Other than that, in my own experience I start to notice differences in behavior (like play roostering/fighting) within the first week...then usually by the 3rd to 4th week there is enough definition in the combs and possibly the wattles.
They ones that are the most difficult are the rosecomb breeds and Silkies....Silkies I have heard can be hard to tell up to 4-6 months!!!
