i have 16 chicks, 5 days old, right now from Murray McMurray. 15 should be from their "rainbow layer assortment" and then the "rare" free chick. aside from the Polish, when should i be able to start figuring out breeds? the Polish seem to be pretty easy, already having hats. i know they are all way to young to figure out gender, but i have an insatiable curiosity and want to figure them out

.

i am pretty sure i have 4 whites, 1 buff, 1 red, and 1 black, but the other colors allude me too. if anyone thinks they can figure it out at this age i will try and get some pics of them up. otherwise i will wait and see how they grow.

Some can be easy like the polish, but others might have to wait till maturity. If you know the list of possibles, it can usually be figured out by a few months old.

lol, sounds good. here you go (pics are two days old)

Black?

You can't really tell, but she has a pretty diamond pattern on her head

i have two or three that look like this one (it is hard to say for sure, they never all sit next to each other for me to tell)

the two that look like this are the biggest two right now

buff?

White? i have four, no idea if they are going to be the same breed

Red?

Polish?

i seem to be missing one or more colors. not sure which ones, i will try to figure it out tonight and get more pictures up.

the polish is a sliver laced polish, the red might be a red sex link, the buff might be a buff orpington, the 2 biggest are ees, the brown ones that you have 2 or 3 of might be welsummers, the black one does it have a pea comb and what color are its feet bottoms?

it looks like a regular comb at this point, and the feet are yellowish.

and it turns out i have three of each 3 and 4, though the amount of red in their colors varies in each group. and the #4s look like they are growing the whiskers. #2 isn't. they are all supper cute.
