At about what age will we know what sex our chickens are? My dad said we had 2 barred rock and 2 australorp pullets, and one RIR pullet as well as 2 RIR, a BR, and a Aust. roosters. They're only about a week old though. I'm hoping he's wrong.

I can't tell that early but I am definitely no expert. I usually don't start forming an opinion until they are 6 weeks old or so...sometimes longer depending on the breed.

My RIR's showed their gender pretty good at 4 wks. old. My BR is now 7 wks. old and we are just now figuring out he's a roo. I don't know about the others, as I don't have any of those breeds, but I think a week old is a little early to tell unless you are a professional sexer. Even then, they do make mistakes! My little BR was supposed to be a pullet! OOPS!
