When chickens stop laying?

Mine stay around and live out their lives. Some longer than others. We occasionally butcher an extra rooster if necessary, but otherwise I like older birds. They add wisdom, and stability to my large flock.
I plan on just letting these birds live out their lives before getting new ones. There are a few other breeds that I want, but I just look at their pictures. I think eight is enough for me to take care of, lol! But I just was wondering what other peoples experience is with the egg laying. I have heard that chickens live for 10 or 12 years.

On average my chickens live 4-8 years with some dying younger, and some living longer. I have yet to have a chicken live longer than 10 years. Others have, but I believe it's unusual.

I just have been going with what I see on the Internet, so I appreciate peoples actual experiences, thank you!

I have always read an average life expectancy of 12-14 years too. I believe that number is more a how long they could life, not an actual average of most chickens.
