about the chicks coming?

Mine are due to ship from Ideal on the 11th. But I dont trust that the people at the PO will remember, or whatever when we tell them or anything. It's a large building. The people that I have dealt with there are not the brightest bulbs on the tree.

Should I go there after I hear from Ideal that they have actually shipped?

I went to my PO the day they were shipped with my name , phone numbers, and address on an index card in sharpie marker. (very bold). told them I was expecting chicks and to call as soon as they got there.

Good luck.

I used to call the day after shipping but I don't call anymore...I'm the crazy lady who keeps ordering live chicks now.

I think they think I'm off my rocker and are probably wondering what the heck I do with all these birds and eggs.

I called a week before they were to arrive and left my name and number and expected date of arrical at ALL the P.O. places they might pass through (the distribution center and the carrier annex) and then I also called the day before I expected them. It worked very well for me and the P.O. folks were great!

We live in a small town and the Postman is one of our friends so he calls my cell as soon as he knows they are there and he will deliver or I can go get them.

This was my first time ordering chicks and getting them through the PO. I physically went in and talked with the ladies at the PO to give them the details. They were wonderful. I actually get my mail from a different PO, but there is one much closer to my house so I wanted to have my chicks delivered to the closer one. The PO ladies had to get special permission from the Post Master because I don't normally get mail through there ... it was no problem.

They called me as soon as the chicks arrived and I hustled on down to pick them up.

Thanks for the replies

I will go down on the 11th and let them know.

My husband called me yesterday to ask when they would be arriving. He is taking a vacation day so that he can go with me to pick them up at the PO and be there when we get them home and open the box up. This coming from the man that was totally against having hens just a few short months ago. LOL When he gets to see them and hold them he will be done for!

You can go online to USPS and get them to hold your mail for x amount of days and leave a comment in the box. I do this on shipped eggs they call me before they even open. Be sure to save the conformation #number so U can have them to stop holding mail after u get the chicks.
