When did your rooster start crowing?

So... My dad's friend, who also has chickens, came home today and he saw my chickens and went like "what? aren't your pullets laying eggs already? isn't your rooster cackling?!". And... yes, they're all around 5-6 months, most of them look pretty "adult", but no eggs and no cackling. I've read an article about "why my hen isn't laying eggs?" and I'm not doing anything wrong. And all I found about the cackling is that he should be cackling already, so...

He's a Plymouth Rock, and the ladies are 2 Plymouth Rocks, 2 Rhode Islands, and 1 New Hampshire.

Chickens don’t have to lay EXACTLY at 6 months, some early, some late...

This guy just started cackling/crowing. He's 11 weeks old.

What do you mean by 'cackling'?
The buk-buk-buk-bagaaw sound they make after laying an egg?
Frequently called the 'egg song' but also sounds very similar to an 'alarm call'.

I meant crowing, sorry for the confusion.

Anyway, I'd like to tell you that it looks like he knows that I've been reporting his laziness for crowing in BYC, because this morning he crowed for the first time ever!

Now the thing is... looks like the NH chicken is a roo as well. This one was born on November, 25th. So I have another crow to wait for... 😅

Ah, ok.

Haha, that's often the way.
