Hey All

I got 8 Aracauna chicks today from my local Tractor Supply and I was wondering when I can expect them to start laying? I know it probably isn't exact and I realize it's a little early but I'm a little excited!! LOL

Thanks for any tips!!

Lauren

Welcome! You can probably expect eggs around 6 months although Easter Eggers are known for procrastinating.

Well first they're actually Easter Eggers, crossbreds with no Araucana in them at all. . . And, you should expect yours to lay at 5-6 months. I'm suspecting you got yours from Murray McMurray (the only hatchery left who claims to have Araucanas) and so did I. My Easter Egger began laying at 5 months.

. . . Sadly they were light brown eggs though, and thus only my true Araucanas and Ameraucanas lay actual blue eggs.

I feel your excitement though!

No... I got them at Tractor Supply but I think they said that they do get them from Murray McMurray... not sure though... some of them do have little "puffs" by their faces like some pictures I've seen of Aracaunas... I want blue eggs!! lol won't be terribly upset if I don't get blue/green eggs though.

Soooo 6 months... that's about what I figured... thanks!!

I have two EE hens and one layes a blue egg and the other green or olive. My blue egg layer started at about 7 months but my green layer just started this month and she is about 1 year old. It was worth the wait to get the green egg.

I had 3 EE's, all with the cute chipmunk cheeks:p Two lay blue-green eggs, one a cream colored egg. (But they all taste great!

) The first one began laying at 20 weeks, the other two about 22-23 weeks.
