When do chickens start laying?

I have had my white Bresse chickens for 8-9 months, and idk if they should be laying yet. Maybe 10 months. Idk if they are not laying because it is still winter or because they don’t get enough calcium in there diet. If you have any tips on on laying chickens I would be happy to hear it.

My girls are just starting to lay again after breaking for winter.

As for calcium, what are you feeding them? Layer will have calcium in it; starter/grower or all-flock needs to have oyster shell on the side for them.

I give my then crushed egg shells for calcium. I heard it’s really good, and it acts as a grit. But, I am starting to wonder if that’s enough.

It won't take the place of grit. They still need that.

Crushed eggshells are fine. Be sure they have them free choice. I feed a combination of eggshells and oyster shell.

There are some signs they will start laying soon. Are their combs red? Do they squat for you? Are they checking out nest boxes?

Putting a fake egg or golf ball in the nest can help show them where to lay.

Ok, thank you. I will get them some grit then. Yes, there combs are red, and I have noticed they have been in the laying boxes more.

Giving them calcium will not hasten egg production. They only need it once they start laying. Providing oyster shell on the side is good if you have any non-layers; those that need it will help themselves while those that don't will ignore it.

Grit goes to the gizzard where it is used to grind food.
