When do broody/mama hens start to lay again?

So my mama hen hatched out a chick 8 days ago and I gave her the one that hatched in the incubator. She has been raising them and doing good besides going back up the ramp into the coop to sit in a nest box and not being sure they follow.

Today I had her and the babies in a play yard, no cover, in the coop to keep them together. She jumped over it to go in the nest box. When I go home to let her out for a bit with the babies I took the eggs from under her as she goes in a box and sits on eggs still..... But I think one of the eggs under her was hers.... Do they normally lay when still mothering babies?

Sometimes they do.

I have seen hens that quit mothering their babies before they started to lay again, but I have also seen hens that start laying eggs while still mothering their babies. I have no idea which is more common.

My mama hen hatched three babies six weeks ago. She didn't lay any eggs while broody, and started laying again when they were just over 3 weeks old.

Mine was broody for 4 weeks before she hatched them since I had to wait for shipped eggs to come in. They hatched last Tue. She laid her last egg April 11 which was the day she went broody.
