When do chickens start to roost?

I may have spoiled mine. I made them a real short roost when I brought them home at a week old they got up it around two weeks. I was proud of them. it was like 2" off the litter but it was cute. now they're going on 8 weeks and sound like babies while getting a spot picked out. I have a roost at 18 or 20" the same height as the nesting box landing. they seem to prefer to sit on the ledge of the landing. no biggie but a bit more clean up near the boxs.

Hi, I have 6 chicks, but one I'm fairly sure has flown high up into the tree today. I saw a little bird at dusk fly across to my tall oak tree and I put a light on it and am near certain it's a chick. He was the biggest and of course best looking chick. He's only 3 weeks old, but flies very well. It's going to be 47 degrees tonight. Do you think there is a chance he can pull it off? Or is he toast? He's flown into my neighbors tree and it looks unlikely I'll be able to catch him.

Thoughts?

Thanks!
