When do chicks start laying?

I have 19 laying chickens. I hatched them sometime in June. They are a mixture of Road Island Red, Plymouth (barred) Rock, and Buff Orpington. What age do they start laying at? We have a brand new (huge) coop, and I don't have nesting boxes yet. I don't want them to develop bad habits because they don't have nesting boxes.

Between 4-6 months is when they typically start laying. Your coop looks great! Nice and roomy

My 2 sex links started at 18 1/2 weeks. I have 2 who are laying soft shelled eggs in the poop tray. Grrrr. I don't know who they are. I have a total of 14, so most aren't laying yet. Several still need some color to their combs & wattles & they aren't squatting yet. It depends on the breed, too. I have a light Brahma & 2 Wynadottes who will probably be last.
