Try petting them. The one that squats in submission is the layer. At least this is how I figured out my Mama (black star) was the one laying when I found my first egg.

My EE is 23 weeks. Her pea comb has been darkening and she is very interested in the nesting boxes. She even keeps my 2 laying hens company when they are laying their eggs. She has laid 2 eggs last week. One had a paper thin shell and the other was a no shell egg. No eggs since. I know they are her eggs as my other 2 are black and red stars and lay an egg every day. She is getting calcium and has since the group turned 18 weeks. I have watched her eat it.

I know not all chickens will lay consistently like my production birds but I thought since she is from the same hen as the red star she'd start before the 24 week mark. (I got a bunch of barn yard mutts from a local lady who told me I was getting Welsummers and Barnavelders. Yeah right!)

We have 9 EE that are 19 weeks. We were suppose to have 12. 3 were roo's. Waiting for our first egg! It's so hard to be patient!

I have two easter Eggers. They are both 20 weeks and 6 days old. I just got my first bright blue egg today!! I watched Maia lay it, if I hadnt I would have assumed it had been Snidely since her face is red and Maia's is not.

Hello, I have 3 EE girls that are 30weeks. Only one lays an egg and it's green. Just wondering when the other two will start. They don;t even have any red on the combs yet.

THANK YOU! Their flock mate, a Dominque, started laying for us on Sunday but I'm *so* curious what color eggs I'll get from the pretty EE girls.
I raised 4 of them and gave one to a friend and wouldn't you know it, the one I gave away lays beautiful blue eggs and the one that I have laying now lays green. I'm hoping for blue ones from one of my other two, but the green ones are a nice soothing sage green and they make my lil egg basket beautiful. Good luck to you.
