When do hatcheries usually first offer chicks?

I'm an excessive worrier and I'm already planning for next year......when do hatcheries usually first offer chicks? Do they offer them year round? I'd be ordering from MyPetChicken. Wanting to order a cochin, easter egger, and silver laced wyandotte to add to a flock of three barred rocks that will be arriving in 12 days (not like I'm counting the days or anything.......pffffffffffffffffffffffffffft)

For such a small order, most hatcheries ship starting in April. Some hatcheries do ship year round but have higher minimums. More like 15-25. Privett is one I am aware of as many of the chicks in Colorado come from there. They are one of the suppliers for MPC too.

I suggest you look at the hatchery websites starting in January, because it's often possible to place the order in January or February, with a later arrival date. If you wait to place the order, you may find what you want is already sold out. (This year was an extreme case, but something similar happens most years in the spring.)

That is a very good idea, I had noticed that all the female chicks are sold out until September! Some friends of mine had an unplanned order-they forgot to put their flock in at night, and the whole flock was eaten by foxes I have NO idea how they managed to get their chicks so quickly as they all looked sold out.

Probably looked at the website for every hatchery until they found one that was not sold out. And if you just want "chicks" or even "pullets of egglaying breeds," that is easier than if you want one pullet each of three specific breeds, all shipped from the same hatchery on the same date

Makes sense-I think that I'll be able to get by with hounding the site until you can pre order- I'm very picky XD This has been very helpful! Off topic I am wondering if I should just get a silver laced cochin-kill two birds with one stone and have my pretty one and a cochin, which leaves room for another easter egger or production bird.
