When do hens start laying?

My mom thought about 5-6 months but i though about 8 or 9..... anyone know the answer?

depends on the breed. For dual-purpose breed like Orpingtons, etc, The average is 20-26 weeks. For egg-layer hybrids and leghorns, I believe it can be a bit earlier - like maybe 18 weeks. I once posted to ask what the earliest age was that people started getting eggs - sometimes there are early-bloomers that lay as young as 15-17 weeks.
 
Your Barred Plymouth Rock, RIR's and Gold Sex link will all lay about 20-22 weeks.

Don't know about the others.
