Hi all,

I am kinda new at this chicken stuff so I got a question. We purchased 40 chicks from a good hatchery and lost 9 within 14 days. Now we got that taken care of with antibiotics but it seems that we might have a worm problem. I found what appeared to be a worm segment in one of the chicks poop? Is it possible that they have worms even though they have not been exposed to the outside yet. Sorry but I really do not know. They are about 4 weeks now and if they have worms when can I treat them and with what?

thanks.

They probably don't have worms and probably didn't need antibiotics. Lots of hatchery shipments result in deaths the first few days. Who told you to give them antibiotics? I would never advise that.

For the record, I didn't worm my flock until they were two years old and only because I saw an actual roundworm in one rooster's poop. Four weeks old is WAY too young to be worming chicks, generally. Are you sure it was a worm and not something else?

ETA: Just noticed you are in Serbia. Did you get them from a hatchery in the U.S.?
