I have 4 Royal Palm turkeys, 7 weeks-old, that I'm feeding turkey starter (26%). When do I switch them to different feed? They're in a pen right now, but will free range during the day in about three weeks.

I think you can switch as soon as your starter runs out. Some people like to switch from 28% protein to 22% protein by mixing some starter and grower together for a week or two, and some like to just switch. Some people don't even use starter, but I wouldn't recommend that. I switched gradually from about 4 to 6 weeks, and by the time I put them out in their range at 6 weeks, it was meat maker only (plus whatever they could find outside).

My flock included 4 RPs this year, but one turned out to be a midget white. I kept wondering when its back was going to turn black and when the tail bands would show up. They never did.

Have fun with the birds!
