My BO rooster is a little over 5 months old and we have had a hand full of moments when he has gone after me and my 3 teenagers but we started working on his attitude adjustment as soon as it started but today I noticed that he hasn't been his usual self he has been extremely calm today he hasn't been running around trying to mount the girls and ever since we started working with him when we walk towards him he moves away from us but today I can walk straight up to him and pick him up without him running off with before even get close to him he just stands there in the area where the girls are or he will lay down and I can just walk up and pet him i know he has been eating but waits for the girls to finish hes drinking water I am just wanting to know is it that he is starting to calm down or should I be worried that there is something wrong cuz to be honest it has me more worried than relieved at the moment

Sorry I accidentally posted to the thread before I finished typing

At age 7 - 8 monts, it is individual. If is only rooster and the hens are laying can be much sooner.

He is the only rooster and he has 8 hens with him 5 of them are laying at the moment just waiting on the other 3 to start laying and most of them are 24 weeks including him there are 3 that are a year and a half

and he also hasn't crowed all day as far as I know

I can tell you with my experience which is not a whole lot. My rooster will be 1yr old this month. He is a buff brahma which are supposed to be a calm breed. It seemed like it depending what mood he was in that day. At first we had 7 hens and him. He was aggressive at first. The hens normally kept him busy. Then we had dogs clean house on us except for him. We bought 2 pullets to put with him and then it got bad for a while. To a point that I was trying to give him away. Now we ordered more pullets and he did a 180 on his behavior. He still acts aggressive towards my 2 older kids but they never established dominance with him yet. I did from the get go. So he never really bothered me too much. Now I'm glad we kept him. There was a hawk in the pen the other day and he protected everyone from it till it left. So long story short, it may depend on the breed or his mood that day. Mine has never let us walk up to him and pet him. Maybe keep an eye on him.

'Laying down' is something I'd also worry a little over. Is he eating?
Have you inspected him for anything obvious like an injury or parasites, breathing difficulty, etc that might point to illness?
I'd observe closely for a few hours and consider the idea of separating him if you think he might be sick or injured.

How about some punctuation? :D

Agrees. Might be good to crate him overnight to monitor his crop function input and output.

I'd isolate bird in a wire cage within the coop for a day or two....so you can closely monitor her intake of food and water, crop function(checking at night and in morning before providing more feed), and her poops.

I like to use a fold-able wire dog crate (24"L x 18"W x 21"H) with smaller mesh(1x2) on bottom of crate under tray.

Then you can put tray underneath crate to better observe droppings without it being stepped in.

If smaller mesh is carefully installed, tray can still be used inside crate.

He's eating and drinking as usual I've checked him for lice and mites but found no signs of it the only thing I see is a few spots of dry blood on his comb from being pecked

Well right as I posted the last one he successfully tried mounting one of my barred rock I guess just to prove me wrong I mean is it possible I'm worried for nothing that it just hormones his mellowing out

Keep an eye on him if he lays down again you may need closer observation. You do not worry for nothing. You worry because you care.
