when do they get to roasting size?

I totally agree about the children learning where their food comes from and all that. We raise quail too and THOSE we eat. They're easier to slaughter--I know it's a silly emotional thing, but I just can't bring myself to slaughter the ducks because they're so cute and friendly, lol. It really would make things simpler--dispose of extra drakes economically, without waste, and when we're ready, not just when I can finally find homes for them. But I just can't do it.

I think both hunting and raising meat is a wonderful way to be an omnivore. We still eat store-bought meat, but we're gradually moving away from it by converting to more plant-based foods and producing more of our own meat and eggs. We want a couple milk goats so we can produce that ourselves too, but it's taking a while to get to where we're ready for that.

Anyway--get the Storey's Guide, and enjoy your roasted duck.
