I have two, 6 month old SLW's. One started laying on Sunday and I have received 1 perfect, tiny, brown egg each day since in the nesting box, next to the golf balls

I'm now wondering at what age the onset of broody-ness will begin. Thank you!

Depends on the hen some will go broody at a young age and some will never go broody. I had one that went broody her 1st summer real easy to break she went broody last fall and hatched an egg but she is the only one at of 15 hens that went broody.

If you want them to go broody they never will...I speak from experiance lol. I have been waiting for over a year...and no broody hens! I even bought some from a guy that he was selling because they went broody all the time...I have had those for 6 months and they lay eggs constantly! (which they were a great deal because I got them for $3 each...)

Wow BarefootMom, I'm jealous. I'd love to pick up a few more hens but here in CA, a laying pullet is $25 or more on craigslist

oh wow I would never pay more than $10 for a layer! Too bad you are not closer (like in Missouri lol)! I have over 100 pullets in the brooder and in a few months would be happy to sell a few to you for $10 each or so!
