Hello,
If the egg cycle is every 25 hours do some chickens lay during the day or in the afternoon or does most of the laying activity tend to occur in the mornings?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks, Mary

Most lay in the a.m. - sometimes into the afternoon. I have had ONE that would lay in the middle of the night, but only 1. It takes 24-26 hours for them to make an egg. Thus, if a hen lays at 8 a.m., the next day she may lay around 10, then noon, then 2....but then may skip a day. This is IF she is a pullet. As they age, they slow down in laying. The other exception is if she is a production breed such as an Isa Brown, Cinnamon Queen, Black Sexlink, Red Sexlink, Golden Comet....they come in a variety of names and are bred for heavy production. They should lay every day, with only a very occasional break.
