When do they open their eyes??

My little cochin chick that just hatched, looks like his eyes are still closed. How long until they open their eyes?

Mine are looking around before they're out of the shell. Was it a clean hatch or does he have gunk on them?

It looked like it was a clean, easy hatch. He does have a few pieces of little shell on his body still, but not really gooey or anything like that.

Take a Q tip and a cup of warm water, and gently swab his eyes, then very carefully open them with your fingers. You may need to repeat it after a few hours.
