My chickens are 6 weeks old and I was just wondering at what age do they start to roost at night? They all still sleep on the bedding.

Thanks

Your title asks "why" they roost and I was going to tell you that it is an inherent trait for survival,, but when, mine usually start before 6 weeks, I give them something low for them to learn on and raise the bar as they get older.

Hahaha sorry. Must need more coffee!

My question is meant to be when not why, sorry

Is there something I should be doing to get them to roost? I provided a small roost when they were still in the brooder but they rarely used it. Now that they are out in the coop they still are not using the roost. Hummm maybe my chickens are lazy...laugh

You could try putting them on their roost as they go to bed. I've actually waited until they were asleep and carefully put them on their roost!
