When do you know when your rooster is mating

when do I know that my roo is mating... he is about 5 or 6 months old and he does this weird thing where he will lift one wing and start runnung sideways tward the hens.... and now one of my hens are broody?

You need to crack a few eggs and look for the bull's eye. This thread has some good pictures and comments. If most of the eggs you crack are fertile, most of the others should be too.

Is he crowing yet? Usually when they start crowing they are fertilizing, but yea, crack open some eggs and look for the bullseye to make sure.

our big guy is a bantam with a herum of normal sized hens. we can tell becuse he 1) mounts them (literally haas to get on top, which is a jump) and 2) we've hatched eggs. He also does the side-step at them...it's so funny.
