My girls tend to lay in the morning, but I've seen one"hold it in" when we had company until everyone left...then within 5 min she assumed the position and popped out an egg. At 4-5 pm in the afternoon. They also naturally go back inside the coop when they have to lay, except when we have them in the travel cage, then they just lay onto the grass.
