when does the first molt occur?

I, too, also have feathers all over the place but my birds arn't looking anything other than sleek and smooth. I have noticed that they lose feathers when they flap excitedly, when they do something clumsy like fly off the roost into the wall, and when they get into a spat with another chicken. It's just a feather here and a feather there, but they do add up (especially when you have 31 like me).
I don't think it's anything to worry about unless you see signs of feather picking or stress.

Its not the first time I've heard that answer. .. poor chicken. I may seek out a vet on her
