When exactly do you consider day one?

Well I am wondering what is day one? Is it the day youplace the eggs in or 24 hours after that? I am confused right now. I set eggs on the 1st late in the evening and today is day the 21st. When should I expect chicks? Eggs were incubated at 100 degrees and humidity for the first 18 days was 38 or 39. on the 18th I put them in lock down and and upped the humidity to 59-60. Let me know what you think I should expect.

If you set your eggs at noon on Monday, then noon on Tuesday is the start of day two.

I just asked this question in a different topic- and everyone seemed to agree that the 21st day is the same day of the week you set them under the chicken. The first was a Friday, so I think that would make tomorrow the 21st day. That's how I'll be counting mine- and it seemed to work for others.

You will get different answers from different people but this is what I do with my silkie and showgirls eggs and it works well for me. That is all I am saying!
When I set my eggs I look at the calender and count down 3 wks. So if I set the eggs on Thursday I expect them to hatch on Thursday 3 wks later. (Although I usually hatch the day before.)
But hatch date does not even matter to me! Lock down is the date I worry about. So if I set the eggs today 4/21 then 5/12 is hatch but I would count back 3 days (to the 10th) and write that date on the eggs as well as an A for am or a P for pm. (I do staggered hatches in different bator) That is when I lock my eggs down they usually hatch the next day.
Now I hatch for friends as well as for myself and I have had nothing but 100% hatches for a couple of mths now. (knocking on wood as I type) Using 2 Hova's and an LG. And I only incubate silkies and Showgirls.

You all rock. I was thinking that today would be it but it makes alot of sence that tomarrow would be it being I set them on the first. So I put them in lock down a day early what is that gong to do to my hatch rate? I put them in on the 18th for lock down and that will be 4 days in lock down. Will this hurt me
