When I was a kid.....

When I was a kid my Grandpa raised hound dogs. Sometimes the mom would dig under something to have her pups. Grandpa would come and get me when the pups were about a week old and have me kneel and say, "Whoopee whoopee whoopee." at the pups. I was mystified the first time he asked me to do this, but those pups would squirm right up out of their den! Grandpa said it was because I sounded like a puppy and until their eyes open they tried to all stick tight together.

I also got to mix bright yellow sulfer powder with Crisco to make a paste for wounds. When it was the color of butter it was perfect. And when the hounds licked it off he told me it did them as much good on the inside as out.

I whooped pups out from under his trailer and mixed medicine until I went away to college. He died a year later.
There are still men in the valley that remember buying a hound from Granpa and what good dogs they were. I've been thinking about him a lot today!

When I was a Kid......this is asuming I have grown up;)

I remember being in Elementary school (about a mile+ down the road) and gettign a call from the principals office. i trudged down to see my two dogs, bear a lab with welsh corgie legs, and candy a golden redweeber and black lab mix. they were right in the main office!

Apparently they decided to mosey on down to school to see me and play with the kids. i got to leave school early to walk them home.

One Hella show and tell...hehe The principal still remembers me, partially 'cause of that incident!

*Grammy's jello cake
*Gramp paying a penny per clam we hoisted out of the lake
*My goat honey butting grammy in the arse while she was bent over on the hill pickin' dandelion greens
*Finally figuring out its better as a younger kid to just sit down when charged by and older mad sibling. It takes all the fun out of the beating:lol:

Funny stories.

When I was a kid, my mom had the cops pull over on the side of the road, on the far side of our property - she was in her nightgown and had curlers in her hair - WALKING THE DUCKS!
I bet those cops are STILL laughing! They pulled over as it was a dark evening and they saw someone "suspicious" with a flashlight.

When i was a kid...We lived in a huge trailer park. My Grandparents live 1/2 a mile down the hill from us. In the summer my grandma would get out the Golf Cart at 7 AM and drive up the hill to pick up the 4 of us and take us swimming. We would swim for 2 hrs and then stay with her till dinner time. It was basically day care but we didn't mind because all the treats were sooo good! When i started school you weren't allowed off the bus unless someone was there to pick you up. My Grandma would ride up and get me on this little scooter. I was small enough to fit between her legs and ride along. Well one day the chain that holds the breaks on the scooter broke. Needless to say, We flew down the hill and rounded the corner faster then ever!

The momentum got us almost all the way to the drive way.
Once we all went to full days of school we still walked down everyday to be with my Grandma.
I also remember we had a strawberry plant that i ate all the berries off of the second they ripened. My family thought the plant didn't produce and we quit growing them.

When I was a kid my mom would only make oatmeal, red river, steamed whole wheat & lumpy cream of wheat (out of all of that, I only like cream of wheat with NO lumps) I remember my grandma would have these individual serving size that you would cut open & eat from the box it self - I mean how cool is that!

I also remember building a for real igloo one year that lasted all winter. Summer wer spent weeding the garden in the morning and swimming all afternoon.

Oh, the good ole days......

Oh & the usual walking to school 10 miles uphill both ways on days it was to cold to let the horses out.....

And of course....

My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really.

When i was a kid (assuming i'm NOT still a kid.............)

I loved to track down and collect toads and frogs, and i still do! They LOVE to make their little shelter underneath the AC in the summer. Once i found one under an overturned shovel that had been left out overnight.
