When is a good age to clip the Chicks wings?

I clipped mine the first time they flew over the run fence. My dad said only one wing... I've heard different ideas about that...Try a search

I heard you start clipping as soon as they have all their feathers, before they figure out they can fly over the fence. I also heard that you only have to clip one wing, saves alot of time I would think. I have a friend that has several RIR's that free range and he only ever does one wing and has never had a problem.

I don't think you need to clip. They won't really go anywhere once they know where home is. I like to keep mine intact in case they need to get away from a preditor. Are you sure you want to clip??

I usually clip their wings when they get full use of the run...maybe about 3-4 months. But watch carefully as they grow out quickly and I find they usually need to be done again in a few months.
