When is it safe to start layer feed

Hi,
Sorry, I was just thinking about feed and foraging. The vet said something about it, and parasites from free ranging, so I was curious. I clean the coop daily from feces - and the run. The flies are annoying though. I am new to chickens and the forum here.

Hunting "in the wild" can increase the likelihood of getting a parasite, but the advice above about testing and treating when there is a concern is a good one.

Others can help you locate a lab where you can get your chickens' poop tested for different worms/parasites.

Just take a stool sample to your vet and ask for a float test. Even if they are not an avian vet they can tell you what worms, if any, are present.
