When is it time to let go?

A similar question has been asked before but my situation is just a little bit different. I have a BB female; I didn’t know she was basically a meat turkey when I got her as a day old from tractor supply last year and she has become a big pet. She was living with my chickens and they all passed around the sniffles. Then the turkey got it and she has had a really hard time kicking it. She’s been poorly for probably pushing a month now. She still eats and drinks and she seemed like she was on the mend but over the past few days she’s gotten to where she uses her wings for balance and whenever she tries to stand, she just ends up going backward then laying back down. I don’t want her to suffer…is it time to let her go? I lost her sister back in the spring and it was heartbreaking but like I said I didn’t know they weren’t meant to live for a long time when I got them. I love her but I don’t want her to be miserable. Is it time to let her go?

Meat birds can have all sorts of health problems. They weren't exactly bred to have strong immune systems.

I'm currently trying to treat a BB Bronze Turkey Jenny for severe gout. But it's starting to look like we may need to put her down. She'll be used, she'll be butchered, & put into jars.

I have been giving her probiotics and electrolytes in her water and using vet rx in her water and putting it on her to try to help break up the mucus or whatever it is.

I always said there was no way I could eat one of my pets but it really has crossed my mind. The question is, would her meat be any good with her being sick?

Thanks for the replies yall I appreciate it.

You don't want to eat a sick bird.

She needs an antibiotic, what you are giving her is not going to cure her.

That’s what I thought. Even if she was healthy I probably couldn’t eat her. I don’t have a poultry vet anywhere near close to me is there any way to get my hands on an antibiotic?

Sorry I didn't see the tag. If I had one with a respiratory infection I would treat it with Baytril (enrofloxacin).

I would give 0.05 to 0.07 ml per pound of bodyweight twice a day for 3-5 days.
I would also be weighing daily and if the bird was losing weight, I would tube feed it.

She has lost weight, but she went through a spell where she wasn’t eating. She is still not eating great, but she is eating. I will get some of this and hopefully get her on the mend. Thanks so much for your help. I’ve seen your name come up a lot in posts so I was hoping you would see this and give me some advice!
