Hi all,
I have a duck with the worst luck. I'm wondering what your thoughts are on putting a duck down. I've been tempted before and she seems to pull thru at the last moment each time, but this time is pretty bad.
After her bout of botulism she has never walked well.
Since then She has had a series of issues. In early spring she injured her leg. I assume she dislocated it. She had been recovering pretty well. She'd never have proper use of it again, but could scoot around & eat. Just as she was getting more mobile she got herself stuck in her water dish & while she was stressed the other ducks pecked most of her feathers off & made her pretty bloody.
Then she recovered again, grew her down back, and was getting mobile again. Then the water dish again (even after I had build an enclosure that I thought would keep her out of it). Because she was stronger she really separated the injured leg. It is now useless. The others pecked her bloody again. Now flies have stared laying eggs in her scabs. I've been cleaning the larvae off, hand feeding her, & keeping her separate. She can no longer scoot around & looks pretty bad.
I'm just wondering if it time to put her down despite all the work & previous recoveries.
A vet is not an option. We are pretty remote & that kind of service isn't available.
Thanks
