PLEASE NOTE: Now I didn't think about this a lot and I'm only on my first flock, so if something seems...meh...then please let me know! Ok, so here we go...
I want some polish chicks in the spring, and I also want to go through the process of having one of my hens raise a baby (It seems fun!) But I don't want to have a rooster to risk having my neighbors complain and I have to get rid of my flock. (So far everybody is fine with my 6 pullets that just moved into the coop) So I was thinking of getting one or two fertilized polish eggs, and slipping it under the hen wen she goes broody, then she will raise it as her own. I will do this in spring/summer because the chick would surely die in Wisconsin winters, plus we can’t get polish chick eggs around this time of year anyways. And so my question is, when do you THINK they would go broody, and what are some common signs of broodiness? (I have two of each of these breeds: Easter Egger/Ameraucauna, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington. These are the breeds I would use.)
